Pool Update
The donations to the pool have been extremely good during the year of 1999. Many people are seeing the vision for the pool and have backed that vision with monetary gifts of a few dollars to thousands of dollars. On behalf of the camp we thank you sincerely and promise to use the dollars donated to the pooi to the very best of our ability . In April of 1997 the pool fund contained $7,600. The pool fund has received a total of over $97,000 toward the pool at this time with $46,000 being contributed in the 1998-99 fiscal year. Thank you.
Many of you are already aware that a few months ago Jack Laverdiere, owner of Laverdiere Construction, donated an aluminum swimming pool (tank). The tank is 25' x 75'. We transported the pool to Chester Pool Systems in Sellersburg, Indiana, to have it sized to 30' x 75'. It is being sand-blasted and fitted with new piping and pumping system. It will be shipped back to us, welded back together here on the site and then warranted as new. All of this will be done for the price of $87,300. Because of the donation, we are saving approximately $65,000 on the tank part of the swimming pool. This is a wonderful donation that has helped us proceed in having the pool hopefully constructed and in use sometime in the year 2000. The State of Illinois returned the building permit with minor exceptions; they have been sent to the architect for correction. They will be forwarded to the State of Illinois for the appropriate construction permit approval.
Bids are now being received from various contractors for the site preparation, concrete work, plumbing, heating, fencing etc. Please continue to pray for the pool and the camp. Your financial and spiritual support is very important to the end of this most important project.
Land Donation
Mr. & Mrs. John Boston of Bowen, IL have donated a 199 acre farm to the LaMoine Christian Camp. The camp is thrilled to have received such a wonderful gift. Our deepest gratitude goes out to the Bostons. It is John's wishes that the farm be sold, and the money used to improve the camp for the sole benefit of reaching more kids for Christ. We thank Mr. & Mrs. Boston for expressing their love for the Lord and for recognizing LaMoine Christian Camp for the work it is doing for the youth and families of our participating Churches. The farm will be appraised and sold sometime early 2001. The camp board will spend the next year developing a master plan for the camp, and where the money can best be used. Each of us should consider remembering our Churches, Church Camps, Children's Home, and Bible Colleges in our wills and as beneficiaries on our insurance policies. What a wonderful expression of true stewardship for God's Kingdom.
Just a note from Vivian Boston
Being a very young wife all during the depression years I learned many things out of necessity. One was to never waste anything. As a new Christian and searching the Bible for help, I saw that the Lord also didn't waste anything. As an avid gardener all my life, we decided to grow all our small town garden could produce. One thing in particular I remember was that the more I picked the green beans, the more they produced; like picking the lovely flowers, more also bloomed. I found that even small plantings gave us an abundance, so I shared them most of the time with neighbors. I soon found I had a time keeping them picked and it came to me that God was blessing my habit. At last I can really testify that you can't really "out give God" no matter how hard you try. John, who was not blessed with a child, says now he can help many children. The Lord has taken care of my handicap by giving me a devoted helper.
